Fasting Tips & Guidelines
Welcome to the Kingdom is an introductory study into the Kingdom of God and what it means to live as a citizen there. This study is intended to be done as a part of a fast. While fasting is not necessary to participate in the study, it is highly recommended, given the intensity of the study.
What is the purpose of the fast?
When people think of fasting, they think about giving something up, either food, activity, or vice. The focus of this fast is to replace something old with something new.
For this fast, you can either skip a meal or fast a media (i.e., news, social media, phone, TV, etc.) for 1 to 2 hours.
Food:
Skip 1 to 2 meals a day.
The goal of this fast is not weight loss, although you may lose a few pounds.
Skipping can cause your body to go into starvation mode, which means your body will try to conserve as much energy/calories as possible.
Avoid skipping breakfast.
Try to eat a balanced breakfast (protein, grain, fruit, and vegetables)
Be sure to drink plenty of water.
Media: The preferred method for this fast
Choose a period of time that is usually devoted to the consumption of media.
News: Skip watching your favorite News hour on TV or consumption on the web.
Social Media: Avoid using your favorite social media platform for 1 to 2 hours.
Do Not substitute additional time in your day by staying up late.
If you are an active poster or contributor, notify your community that you will not be online for about a month.
General Guidelines
Apart from the community you are studying with, Avoid telling people that you are partaking in a fast.
If, for any reason, you break the fast, don't give up. Forgive yourself and get back on track.
